Follow-up Comment #2, bug #68855 (group groff):

Yes, I don't doubt that it's more economical for you, and that's great,
but...

...this distinction leaves me no wider because **it isn't a distinction**.
You can set configure a stroke thickness that is computed from the current
font size **with** the drawing command "\D't nnn'"...and in fact, that is the
only way in the *roff language to do so. We don't have a request or an
alternative escape sequence for configuring the stroke thickness.

Right. Well, evidently I'm still confused.

I'm familiar. Here's an exhibit of what I, in an unguarded moment, might call
the _three_ "modes" of stroke thickness configuration: (a) proportional to the
type size; (b) the minimum supported by the device; and (c) an explicit amount
in (I think) 'M' units, hundredths of an em.

$ cat ATTIC/stroke-thickness.roff
.sp 0.5i
This is text at \n[.ps] points.
.sp 0.5i
\D't -1'\D'l 1i 1i'\D't 0'\D'l -1i 1i'\D't 6000'\D'l 0 -1i'
.sp 0.5i
Drawing position ends up here.

In the foregoing, you can see that I use only one form of instruction to the
formatter to configure the stroke thickness, and in the attached PostScript
file, you will be able to see that all three stroke thicknesses are distinct.

Explanations just do not stick in my head if I can't make sense of them. I'm
not trying to be difficult; it's just that your mode 1/mode 2 explanation
keeping falling out of my brain mere moments after I read it, because it
clashes with other things I think I know about the formatter and the *roff
language.

(Please excuse the error in the text of the document: the size of the text is
presented in "scaled" (or subdivided) points, not true points.)
