Ok, I will reply to myself :-)
The path is mentioned in the /boot/grub/grub.cfg file:
#
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE
#
# It is automatically generated by grub-mkconfig using templates
# from /usr/local/etc/grub.d and settings from /usr/local/etc/default/grub
I have created the /usr/local/etc/default/grub file on my virtual machine,
executed update-grub and config is fine now!
