A fellow has offered a new program to GNU, an enhanced ping implemented

this to GNU per se, but I thought you might be interested in the
additional features he claims it has, and consider them for GNU ping:

The inetutils ping is designed around libicmp, so has the facilities
for multiple types of icmp queries as well. I don't know how many are
implemented, but the idea of running a python program as setuid root
for a basic utility gives me the heeby-jeebies.

I would suggest declining the offer.
