Comment #9 on issue 1483 by [email protected]: Lyric alignment is wrong in 2.13.46

Right. Lilypond does not require users to associate lyrics with music; one can give explicit durations in the lyrics, and James' nice example over on -user does just that.
When we *do* associate lyrics with a Voice, using \lyricsto we could ask Lilypond to search for the Staff containing the Voice, figure out which way it is and 'affinity' the staff that way. Maybe too complicated, maybe problems, it will take time to think that through.
What would give us what we want, but change less of what we are used to? Maybe asking that nonstaff lines at the very top or very bottom of the system get treated like they already do at the last system on a page (loose springs) ?
