I think creating a ~/.mime.types file is certainly a better approach than editing /etc/mime.types.
But we need somebody to test this out. Maybe we can ask Keith to do so, since he has the most experience.
Also, I think the ps entry should be the same as the scm entry (with the exception of the ps extension)
