This small English point caught my eye.  When a parenthetical statement
really is a sentence, as is above, the period goes inside the parentheses.

  (A patch should be handled as described above).
would make no sense at all.

On the other hand, with a parenthetical non-sentence at the end of a
sentence, the period follows the parentheses, as if the parenthetical
was not there (like this).

I could go on, but anyway.
