Well, I don't think it's going to happen unless the info program (or some equivalent program) and info-mode can handle makeinfo-produced html. And neither of these tasks are trivial. So we're stuck with the obsolete info format for the foreseeable future. :-(

Would it be useful to ask the lynx and/or elinks developers if they
would be interested in developing an "info skin": a mode that has the
functionality and look-and-feel (more or less) of info?  Both lynx and
links/elinks are GPL.  At least elinks has configurable keybindings.
I can send the emails, but only if you think it's worthwhile.

Either way, I hope you'll check in my patch, at least the html part.
