Is this wise?
Well, there are a number of good reasons to do so, or I wouldn't have
gone to all the trouble of pushing it. Better HTML output (which many
people ask for), better expansion control, more maintainable source,
... anyway, as far as I'm concerned, it's happening. It all *could* be
done in C, but the reality has been that neither I nor anyone else has
time to bring makeinfo up to anything like the level of functionality in
texi2html.
half a minute to generate Elisp, that would set me (and others?) back to
a "batch mode" development process.
I hope it isn't 10x slower, but even if it is, 30 seconds does not seem
like an insurmountable lengthy span of time. Sorry.
