It may look intimidating to the outsider, but in fact it is not. It simply
works differently from what you expect. As Nick said please come over to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] list with a patch against trunk and some reasoning. This
will give you the highest chance of getting this added. Why?

- The audience on dev@ is much bigger than here in this single report.
- As the patch needs to be applied to trunk first anyway and might be
backported afterwards most committers will not take care of it, because the
first step is not straight forward for them, as they need to review the patch
in a context different from the one were it was created and need to forward
port it eventually. The easier you make it for committers to review your work,
the most likely it is that it gets applied. BTW: The same is true for me if I
want to get my peer committers to review my patches which is required for
backports.
- As Nick correctly explained the developer resources are very tight. So many
of us focus on two things: Fixing bugs (this report is an enhancement) and
scratching our own itches and the itches of our employers as long as the
solutions for these itches fit into the project which is not always the case.
Obviously and thats back luck this report currently does not scratch the itch
of any committer having read this report.

And yes, I admit that even the approach above is no guarantee that the patch
gets applied but it increases the chance.
