In rc(8) wsconsctl.conf settings are just fed to wsconsctl(8). Therefore I do not think this makes a difference. Demonstrating what I experience: $ wsconsctl display.brightness=100 [un/plug power] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=92.15% [un/plug power] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=92.15% $ wsconsctl display.brightness=50 [un/plug power] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=92.15% So if I do not use ``wsconsctl display.brightness=X'' everything seems allright, apart from not beeing able to reach full screen brightness (max is 92.15% as reported by wsconsctl). But it get's even stranger, demonstration: [Fn+PgUp/PgDown until you have the brightness you want] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=76.47% [un/plug power, upon unplug display gets a little brighter or dimer, upon plug nothing is visible] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=76.47% [does not report brightness change] [un/plug power, no visible changes] $ wsconsctl display.brightness display.brightness=76.47% So there are changes in brightness (caused by plug/unplug) that are not reported by wsconsctl.
