The SSDs are probably the reason why the hosting company uses virtio-scsi by 
default and not virtio-block. virtio-block does not support discard operations 
which are useful for SSDs.

Thanks for the offer but it looks like it won't be necessary. I could now 
reproduce IO-errors with qemu 2.6. Not sure what is different than last time I 
tried. Maybe it depends on the disk or RAM sizes.
