Why is your root filesystem this big?

You manually chose that.

*LOTS* of documentation, as well as the install defaults, push people to
have a small root and many filesystems.  Based upon what I see described
here, I doubt any additional documentation would have helped!  In the
installer you manually specifically chose a custom layout, and entered
some outlandish choices.



So you went through the installer and manually chose to configure a
gigantic root partition, and yet you didn't see the manual choise to
install an EFI bootloader?

The problem here is you didn't just "hit return".  That's why we have
received no reports of this memory-shortage bug in the bootloader
before.  Noone else setup a system this crazy weird.
