I have not verified that as > I went to step 5 too. Yes, these Rockchip SoCs typically try to boot from eMMC before booting from microSD. So if there is something on the eMMC the microSD will be skipped. So erasing the eMMC is the right approach. It is possible that the U-Boot that was on the eMMC somehow looked at the microSD first and managed to boot OpenBSD. I'm not sure why that broke for you after an OpenBSD upgrade.
