Dear Deepa,
Vanakkam! Greetings from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Am in the same boat. I started getting interest in observing butterflies only
in the last few months (six odd). All I did was got a copy of a good field
guide and for every image shared, try reading the details from the book. Then I
also try searching for images through google from where you get one or the
other form (UP, UN, DSF and WSF) of the sps. I save all these images in
separate folders for referencing again...

Enjoying the joy of learning... ;-) I do this by sharing the little I've learnt
with my son (4th Std). We also play quiz in recognizing the names... Now we can
confidently identify and recognize quite a few...

regards,
ramjee

Thank you Rohini!

On the butterflyindia egroup; I get the feeling that unless I post "rare" or
"expert" photos, I will not get any response. But as a beginner, how would I
know which are the rare and common ones unless I get help to learn the
different names? I have asked for help earlier, but did not get a response, so
I am doubly grateful to you for responding!

Beginners (like me) need to learn the common butterflies/moths first, before
going to more "advanced" levels; and I often find that the behaviour of
"common" species is as fascinating as that of the "rare" ones. And since there
is the "open-wing" and "closed-wing" appearance, as well as the "dry-season"
and "wet season" appearance, as well as the caterpillar an larvae id, it's
going to be a very slow process as far as I am concerned!

With gratitude, Deepa.
