One of the best ways to learn the fundamentals of D-Star, is by watching the 
D-Star training videos at Dayton's Hamvention 2015. There are 3 - one hour 
video links on the site. The presenter is John Davis WB4QDX -- he is from 
Atlanta and is very knowledgeable speaker.
