No idea..just passing on some educational links. I know nothing about
D-Star, so I want to watch the videos..just for my edification. I have no
desire to get into that type of RF.

Rick:

I must admit this DSTAR stuff is very tempting but
what percentage of hams actually use it today?

www.Dstarinfo.com is a very valuable resource for new users of D-Star.

One of the best ways to learn the fundamentals of D-Star, is by watching the
D-Star training videos at Dayton's Hamvention 2015. There are 3 - one hour
video links on the site. The presenter is John Davis WB4QDX -- he is from
Atlanta and is very knowledgeable speaker.

This is by far the best way to take a D-Star cram course.
