More of a round table discussion and less of just going down the list of check-ins. This was not intended as a Net solving exercise. It was for a general survey for possible meeting topics to find out what folks wanted to know that they didn’t currently know. Some are simply one sentence answers. Most require preparation to properly answer. Next week is my turn in the bucket. I am going to tackle one or two of the simple ones. I also have access to a webinar account that I would be willing to offer up if someone wants to do a slide show on the net. What peeves me highly are: People who check in and out in the same breath. – If you are going to do that, don’t bother. Why? Do you think your call sign goes in to some giant eternal ledger that counts for perfect attendance? It doesn’t. I keep a count of the check-ins and send that to K5CAM. Just the count. No call signs. It’s like going to a club meeting at the masonic lodge, walking in the door and then leaving. Sound silly? As far as I am concerned it’s the same thing. If you don’t like the topic, OK. I get it. You don’t have to stick around but at least wait till you find out what the topic is about. Otherwise, it’s just plain rude. I asked the question last evening: “What do you want to know in Ham Radio that you do not know now?” The responses from those that hung around are below. Note: most stations did not stay for the duration – they checked in and boogied due to – the bad topic, dinner was served, nagging XYL….. Topics suggested / answers needed: Digital Modes ? ATV – How is it transmitted? How to tie logging programs to the radio for automatic input of frequency, etc.? How antennas work? HF Tuner Construction techniques? Using Logging programs – setup etc.? Data interfacning like the CAT system. How does it work? Is there an easier way to learn the test material beside memorization? What is “traffic” on a net? How do you tune a tube type amp? How do you use EZNEC to design antennas? Why is there not a class to study for the Extra license? Why do DX’ers QRM the DX station? How do you waterproof all of your outside connections, external tuners, etc.?
