What about drilling it out with the correct size bit?   Either vertically on a 
drill press or horizontally.   It’s only 2.25” od.   U didnt say borehole 
length or width.  If too long or large, back to the lathe/mill.
I’ve done just what I described for drilling and tapping AL stock.
