Recently, the Ubuntu Developer Summit was held in Paris. Among those in attendance were Klauss Knopper and a few people from the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC/$100 Laptop) project. Apparently, Klauss is interested in Ub for some reason, perhaps to base the next Knoppix on. Other distros might do that as well. I think Mepis is doing that. Pure speculation on my part about K's intentions.
The OLPC boys want to work with Cannonical and vice versa to improve each others' products. But they are waiting to get some buy in from Red Hat, the prime vendor on OLPC.
