The other option is to look at distros that have more up-to-date ALSA versions. I know that there have been discussions of Edubuntu and Ubuntu and various others, all of which I think are a bit more up-to-date than the 'ol stable Debian version we're using. I wouldn't be surprised if a newer (more up-to-date) distro fixed a number of other sound card issues, and various other device detection issues. Not to toot a totally different horn, but I'm a subscriber ($$$-paying) of Mandriva, which has a number of commercial drivers included in the distro. The modem drivers are included as well, but I haven't yet determined whether they're the freely available (14.4k) ones or the full versions. When I bring in the server in the next week or two, if interested, I'll have a Mandrake install mirror on there, and someone can do an install and play with it and see what the modem drivers are capable of. -- Don Head [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------ Yahoo!
