Sunshine and mild weather this week (as opposed to last week's snow!). This was Week Six, and therefore Graduation Day, for the kids computer classes. Have to check with Dave or Nate, but it looks as though there were very few dropouts this time around. They held makeup classes immediately after graduation, too.
Thanks to Jenny and Josh, for wiping down and disinfecting the classroom -- with all the flu going around, it was a good idea. Craig Smith kept working on the triage pile, making more "zombie" machines. He and Keith also helped carrying computers and monitors for the new graduates, as did Nate and Dave. Jess stayed late, since I snuck out early (hey, I had a good reason!). I put a flier up in the window describing the laptop for sale, and highlighted the paragraph explaining the intermittent problems with mouse/touchpad and keyboard. Patrick had considered using it for the Bike side, but decided it was a little too flaky to meet their needs. I took home some computers to work on during the week; I'll be getting them installed and configured, so we can put them up in the window for sale. After last week, we are almost totally out of machines for sale! A potential new volunteer stopped in to donate some equipment (including a nice wireless router); she is very busy with graduate school and work at the moment, but thinks she will have some time during the summer. Several more applicants, both for the kids and adult classes, were registered. The Bike side donated a bicycle rack, which is now placed on the (Thurmann) side of the building, near the back gate/alleyway. So now the kids attending class will have somewhere they can lock up their bikes. We still miss you, Doc, and we still hope you're having a good time. See you all next Saturday! Theresa
