Decided to reinstate the unsigned->signed %lu -> %ld sscanf format change, 
since it inhibits the lint warning and consequences here are negligible 
(affecting only petabyte swap/dump sizes).  lint warnings about sscanf format 
strings are sometimes serious, since they can result in overflows so it is 
better to eliminate them completely to alleviate concerns.
