All,

Keith, Sue and I had a conversation about the future inclusion of this change into the conversion work Sue is doing. She has already made these changes. Keith
stated that he was fine with these changes based upon the conversation. See
attached.

Thanks,

John

John,

Since Sue has a webrev out to convert installadm.c to Python, could you coordinate with her to instead get this change into the Python version?

 All,

I have updated the webrev to include the installadm man page.
The new webrev is located at:

    http://cr.opensolaris.org/~johnfisc/name-length-2/
    http://cr.opensolaris.org/~johnfisc/name-length-diff-2/

Just in case anyone looked at it already.

Thanks,

John

 All,

During the AI webserver project QE also identified that there is a limit on the
length for AI service names. CR 4508 and 7014147 document the failure:

    http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=4508
    http://monaco.sfbay.sun.com/detail.jsf?cr=7014147

The webrev is located at:

    http://cr.opensolaris.org/~johnfisc/name-length/

The main limit is based upon mDNS. From the dns-sd man page:

name can be any arbitrary unicode text, containing any
legal unicode characters (including dots, spaces,
slashes, colons, and so on without any restrictions), up
         to 63 UTF-8 bytes long.

Thus the strlen() > 63 check within the validate_service_name().

Thanks,

John

--- Begin Message --- I talked with Sue and she and I both think it'd be good to get that change into the C code; I was primarily concerned with making sure that we had the Python side covered for when we handle that.

So yes, you're clear from my standpoint.

 Keith,

Sue has stated that she has made the necessary changes in the Python code
to handle this change.

So in your comment are you saying that this is all I need to do and then I can push the change? Or are you saying that I should simply have her do this change
with her ISIM stuff?

Thanks,

John
