I would opt for extending the CakePHP "bundle" for TextMate. TextMate is Mac-only but a little over a year ago there was efforts of making an Editor for Windows that would use the same bundles and in other ways be inspired by TextMate. I am not aware of any similar efforts for a Linux-editor.
