Subject: Re: [Cambium-users] 820s 2+0 Poor Signal - Please help

You are brave doing your first licensed link as 2+0!

I have heard the PTP820/IP20 have a reputation for being complicated to get all
the settings right, so you are right to look for someone who has done it
before, unfortunately I can’t help with that.

There are some generic mistakes we have all been through that would explain
such a huge difference between expected and actual signal. One is aligning on
a sidelobe, but that should not be as likely with 3 ft dishes in 6 GHz. With
something like 6 ft dishes in 11 GHz the beam is very narrow and a tower guy
will stubbornly keep trying to get a couple extra dB on a sidelobe instead of
swinging the dish through the null to the next peak.

Another possibility you have already looked into, and that is a polarization
mismatch. I’m going to assume any waveguide seals on the radios or antennas
are mylar and not some solid metal thing you are supposed to remove. I am also
going to assume you have verified clear line of sight with binoculars, to make
sure you aren’t trying to shoot through a hill or building that got built since
the latest Google Earth imagery?

Now is probably a bad time to find help with this, since people will be in
Memphis. Unless you are there also.
