Sokphal,

I agree.

Nearly all people in my village became Khmer Rouge (Khmer Rumdoss) because
of Samdech Euv's appeal. They were glued to the radio listening to prince
Sihanouk speeches from Peking.

The prince had a choice to ask the people to help fight the Vietcongs and
the North Vietnamese but he chose to help them instead. Many people said
that his action was justifiable because Lon Nol and Cambodian leaders should
not depose him, therefore he had the right to fight to regain his power.

Honoring 23 October is understandable, but blaming 18 March for the event
that led to KR atrocity is a bit too strange.

History is rewritten again.
Sam Rainsy is dishonest to blame the event of 18 March for starting
Cambodian civil war.
March 12, 1970, Khmer government attempted to defend Khmer territorial
integrity by asking the Vietcong with approximately 40,000 troops on
the border to vacate all their sanctuaries from Cambodian soil.
Instead Vietnam launched an offensive and quickly seizing large
portions of the eastern and northeastern parts of the country,
isolating and besieging or overrunning a number of Cambodian cities
including Kampong Cham. The US took action to support "the only
government in Cambodia in the last twenty-five years that had the guts
to take a pro-Western stand." Vietnam war was spilled over to
Cambodia.
Lon Noliens has no choice but to defend the country from the foreign
“tamil” invader.
Vietnam troupe only withdrew after the Paris Peace Accord in 1973.
Civil war was made it possible by Sihanouk who lent his name and
popularity in the rural areas of Cambodia to a Khmer Rouge movement
over which he had little control.
