I just wrote this lost Khmer empire story as likewise Roman empire rulers did, just to make the so called Khmer extremists understand that the lost culture as they said Khmer culture self-evaluated as hightly as others is for nothing in the face of social evolution and universal impact with the changing world and in other words changing technology.
Khmer is now becoming ethnic group in Surin, Thailand, in Kampuckea Krom in South-Vietnam and in Cambodia, And Cambodia's inhabitants are Cambodian in Khmer word "Kampuchun" and remember that all people who speak Khmer are not just ethnic Khmer similarly to people who speak English is American or Canadian or Australian or speak khmer is thai or Vietnamese or Cambidian.
