I had talked to to Lok LEUK SAMOEURN about his prospected book Khmer Republic before he died.. I would like to add on... Here are some dates to remember. The following info. [1]-On August 6, 1945, U.S. war planes bombed Hiroshima, followed by Nagasaki bombing three days later. The effect of the bombing had not yet reached Indochina when on August 9, 1945, the same day of the Nagasaki bombing, Son Ngoc Thanh attempted a coup d’état by storming the Royal palace, seizing power and forcing the resignation of King Sihanouk. Thanh eliminated the pro-French cabinet, and named himself the prime minister of the newly independent Cambbodia. *Note by Perom: Lok Kru Keng Vann Sak told me that he was at Sisovath High School Dorm that night. He had told me during my stay at his house on Feb. 28, 2006. He said: Son Ngoc Thanh can declare the Khmer Republic during that time. Why not? He said because Son Ngoc Thanh was very close with Suramarith and his wife..and had promised to take care King Sihanouk.
