What a coincidence? I was the first navy contingent to enter Kampot thru that
shallow river and

it was low tide. My patrol boat got stuck several times until I reach the city.
Luckily, there were no

rock in that river, but sand. Many thank to you, the KR were not too close to
the river. However, I

stayed only two weeks in the city and was rotate by another two patrol boats.
It was so unfortunate

that the KR were able to break your line of defense about two weeks after I
left. The KR had reached

the river bank at the time the two patrol boats were on their way to the sea.
Two KR B41 were fired

at the first boat, piercing one side of the boat and exiting the other side
without exploding. The second

boat was not so lucky. It got sunked by the KR B41 and its commander was
capured. The KR killed

him and cut his head right a way. A few days later, one of his friend
volunteered to enter the rive again

and he successfully retrieve his friend body.

I am not familiar with the army term. Is កងវរៈសេនាl តូច លេខ ៥២ means regiment
or batallion?

The Navy had only two battalions to defend its naval base at Ream and Airforce
base at Kang Keng.

Yet, the Navy sent one of its batallions to help defending Kampot. Not
understanding why the Navy

made such decision until I've met an army colonel in the state a decade ago.
The Kampot Governor was

Sustene Fandandez brother.

BTW, since your កងវរៈសេនាl តូច លេខ ៥២ were near KEP, were you stationed at Kep
before it fall to the KR?

The might Kep fall, I was about 1.5KM away watching the bullet.s flying like
Fourth of July. Some of the bullets

did fly into my direction.

Mr Baphon talk about defending Kampot and I happened to be there too. I met a
Para Colonel who just came
from the front line to report to the situation to Kampot Governor at operation
room. He looked worrisome. I knew
this colonel since before the war. His parent house was across from my house. I
met him several times when I
was student and playing chess against his brother at his parent house. He was
already colonel before the war and
didn't get any promotion even toward the end of 1973. I didn't know his full
name, but I call him Bawng On.
If you come across any survival Para, ask him about the fate of this colonel.

Dear Lbawng Baphuon:

Thanks for sharing your very important document.

I had talked to to Lok LEUK SAMOEURN about his prospected book Khmer Republic
before he died..

I would like to add on...

Here are some dates to remember.

The following info. Are taken from the book:"From Freedom to HELL= A History of
Foreign Interventions in Cambodian Politics and Wars" by Punnee Soonthornpoct,
Ph.D. page 39...” ISBN: 0-533-15083-3 (gifted book from my god brother).

[1]-On August 6, 1945, U.S. war planes bombed Hiroshima, followed by Nagasaki
bombing three days later. The effect of the bombing had not yet reached
Indochina when on August 9, 1945, the same day of the Nagasaki bombing, Son
Ngoc Thanh attempted a coup d’état by storming the Royal palace, seizing power
and forcing the resignation of King Sihanouk. Thanh eliminated the pro-French
cabinet, and named himself the prime minister of the newly independent
Cambbodia.

Note by Perom: Lok Kru Keng Vann Sak told me that he was at Sisovath High
School Dorm that night. He had told me during my stay at his house on Feb. 28,
2006. He said: Son Ngoc Thanh can declare the Khmer Republic during that time.
Why not? He said because Son Ngoc Thanh was very close with Suramarith and his
wife..and had promised to take care King Sihanouk. Lok LEUK SAMOEUN agreed KVS
note.

The success of the Enola Gay mission had forced the Japanese to surrender on
August 15, 1945.
