How ya doing and welcome!

For bellows making:
I'm still working this site so there isn't a huge amount of other info but I did put quite a bit of info on bellows making.  I'll be adding ground glass manufaturing soon as well as how I built my first system (not to detailed since it was based on Jon's design) and a detailed explaination of how I built my second system (my design).

For camera building buy the book!
Great book and a good starting point for building different systems.  It explains how to build the camera back really nicely.  He also has a ton of links to other sites as well.  Also, his design (IMHO) is much more elegant than the Bender.

Enjoy!

Hi y'all --

I am brand spanking new at this, so I will start by saying Hi.

That out of the way, I am wanting to build a 4x5 view camera. I am a reasonably adept woodworker, and can handle just about any other craft given clear enough instructions.

I ahve purchased some film holders and will eventually find a lens. I have found the seemingly one and only explanation on building a bellows and will begin practicing as soon as I can.

I have seen the bender literature and like the slide they use for the front mounts so that rise does not affect tilt. I am sure I will incorporate that.

Could someone explain to me a bit clearer how the back (ground glass/film holder) assembly should be done. As I understand it, the gg should move out of the way for the film holder to be inserted. I also assume that the back would be removed and repositionned to allow for 4x5 vs 5x4.

What are the favored materials for this project by experience? (Bellows, lens boards, rail, woods...) I am sure some are merely a matter of taste, but if someone has already learned somethign the hard way, I would prefer not to follow in their footsteps... :)

Thanks,

-- Bradley
