The neatest thing I ever saw (and I really regret not buying one) was the 
Galvin 6x9 view.  It used a "bail" type lever and a set of really long 
springs on the ground glass back.  When you pulled the bail you could lift 
away the focusing panel assembly far enough (almost 3 inches!) to insert a 
RH-10 roll film back without removing the focus assembly.

Horseman rotary backs make a lot of sense, too, and fast to use--you just 
rotate the back 180 degrees to engage the roll film back and then rotate 
again to re-engage the ground glass.
