There are plans out there if you keep looking. I think it was just
yesterday that the following web site was posted to this list, and it has
some plans (see http://www.rhoadescameras.bizland.com/). Searching the
list archives would probably turn up links to more designs. Take a look
at:

depending on how you want to look around.
I started a list of cameramaker links at

the bottom of the page. I'm planning on rolling this over into a
cameramakers page to go along with the mailing list when I get the chance.
Some of these guys, Jon Grepstad in particular I think, has links to other
cameramakers who often have designs listed.
There is at least another book on cameramaking I purchased a while
back. I don't remember the title, but I think it is advertised in View
Camera magazine. The plans in that book are for a monorail made out of
copper tubing. It had some interesting ideas, but wasn't quite what I was
looking for. The View Camera Magazine <http://www.viewcamera.com/> has
run a few articles that you would be interested in. There is a good one
on bellows making and John Layton wrote an article on building a wooden
field camera. You should be able to locate the magazine issue dates in
the list archives or from the View camera site.
I built a camera based on the View Camera magazine's plans. You can see a
picture of it at <http://rmp.opusis.com/cameras/my4x5_2.jpg>. If you
decide to go this route we should probably talk since there are several
modifications I had to make in order for this camera to work.
I would appreciate it if you keep track of the information sources you dig
up. We can use these to build a cameramakers web page that could help the
next guy with these kind of questions.
