Bob, I would scavenge for a large iris aperture as you suggested, however, i am scaling everything up (very large, about a 2 foot opening.. it's a long story ; ), so it should be easier at a larger scale. I don't know of any application that someone might have needed a monster diaphram for (except maybe military), and it is necessary that it be hand-built. thanks!
