Aerial lenses for the camera should be great. However they probably won't work for an enlarger. Most Aerial lenses are telephoto as such they won't focus very close. I've got a 900mm and it won't focus closer than about 6-8 feet.
For enlarger lenses the same is true for 'normal' camra lenses. Take the diagonal of the format. This is all based on the light fall off due the physics of any lens (the math is something like Cos of the angle times SQR Root of 5 ou can look it up). 9x9" is easy. You want to have a 9*1.414 lens or about 13" Anything shorter you're corners will not get enough light. With an enlarger you have more wiggle room because at such close-up distances you're lens is effectively longer focal length (cause its farther away from the neg than if it was in a camera focusing at infinity). For instance I use a 135 mm lens for 4x5 where the 'normal' lens would be 150mm. hope this helps. But check out your aerial lenses and let me know it they infact are telephoto. (I support one on a stand or a ladder in a doorway and then block out the rest of the light. Then I take a large sheet of diffuse material and walk it towards and away from the lens to see where it focuses. If you stretch a tape measure from the lens out to twenty feet you can 'focus' with your material until you reach the near limits.) ---William Nettles [EMAIL PROTECTED] Nettles Photo / Imaging Site http://www.wgn.net/~nettles Find out what's happening in Echo Park: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2002 12:07:16 -0600 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Cameramakers digest, Vol 1 #502 - 1 msg > > > I previously got some aerial lenses to make a large format camera with.
