Yep..varnish..passes all the tests. We retested after your coments and my rereading of Ken Hough's site, where he mentions lacquer. Now what varnish is the question? It dose not seem to be polyurathaine..i have my own absalutly subjective reasons for beliving this...umm dose anyone have a test for polyurathaine?

I don't have a test for polyurethane varnish, but I do seem to remember that there are some problems of poor adhesion when applying it over other finishes, particularly shellac. This may not sound very important, but quite a few people have used a coat of so of natural (so-called "orange") shellac for the wonderful color it provides, followed by top coats of varnish for toughness and gloss. Testing of a small area is probably still a good practice. RKS
