lookupd caches data for a long time by default. Run lookupd
-configuration to see what yours is set to. I have mine at the default
12 hours and simply run lookupd -flushcache when I modify /etc/hosts.

I wonder why you guys are using /etc/hosts for ad blocking when Camino
supports hostperm.1, though. Hostperm.1 provides much more granular
control like blocking scripts, images, and objects separately.

CamiBlock <http://www.nada.de/mac/camitools/camiblock.html> is an
excellent tool for populating and updating hostperm.1.
