HI: My mention of the name being in the credits was a suggestion only ... Stuart makes a good point to. No one part of any project is all important. However, to anyone who does not use Camino, the Icon is, for all intents and purposes, Camino. Will they download and install it? From my experience in retail sales, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that packaging can make or break a product. Even to those who pride themselves as experts on what is inside, packaging (first impressions) matter. We need some balance here.
When I looked for the name of the icon designer and couldn't find it easily. This is why I suggested a place for it. Each I open Linux or Unix config file or use a man page, the name of the programmer(s) are mentioned. It should be so for the graphical portions of Camino as well.
From the beginning of this thread it was evident that some were not
aware that this had been a subject of much discussion in the past. In reading the mailing list archives became clear that the icon was the subject of close scrutiny. The quote from Mike Pinkerton makes that clear. Do we have any rough drafts or proposals archived? Those would be very helpful as well. I know that various designs were discussed and some rejected. Lets not re-invent the wheel, lets improve it. I believe the subject of the icon size was raised in the past. The problematic thing was that the icon's arrows (North, South, East ,West) were considered part of its dimensions which was why it looked smaller than it was in the design. For my part I think attempting to change this with the current design will pose problems. The proposed design looks static to me where the current one seems more active. These things are far more evident when Dock magnification is on ... how many people have Dock magnification turned on? All that said; for me the bigger GUI issue is with the navigation icons in the Tool Bar. They have never looked finished to me. Those look like something will happen if you press them. Camino's look static, almost out of place in the application. I hope this clarifies my intentions regarding the icon credits. cheers, davidf -- David Fedoruk B.Mus.
