Is there any way to have the sheet remain in the background, and have the tab loading "pause" until I manually activate the tab and answer the question? I suspect the answer is 'no.' If that's the case, then is there any way to make the experience less intrusive and disruptive?

This has been one of the pet peeves of just about everyone who uses a Mac Gecko-based product since the security fix of a year ago caused the sheet to display the tab which called it. There are several bugs on this in the Core, including <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123913> <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123908> and the generic <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59314>.

Unfortunately, it's going to be exceedingly difficult to fix any time soon; Simon pretty succinctly sums up the obstacles to fixing this behavior in <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=123913#c20> :-(
