Rick,

I think what I'm going to do is apply the patch just as Matt with 
Hobie recommended but in three layers, starting small in the area of 
the plate and increasing in size up to the size (12" x 16" or so) he 
recommends.  What do you think?  Do you have any idea what putty to 
use that Matt recommends?
