A different GUCCo!.  The London - Birmingham route was built by three different companies and comprised the wide Grand Junction Canal from London to Braunston, the narrow Warwick & Napton and Warwick & Birmingham Canals, along with a short section of the Oxford Canal.

The original Foxton - Norton GUC could have provided a wide link between the wide canals either side, but was presumably built as a narrow canal in order to keep construction costs down, perhaps also recognising the development of the wider narrow canal network across most of the Midlands.
