To me a considerable disincentive to cruising the HNC is the uncertainty whether you will be allowed through Standedge Tunnel due to being oversize. Although BW issue an acceptable profile information sheet I doubt if many people know their exact dimensions. When my girlfriend took her boat through last year it was a considerable worry to her as she knew that her boat was slightly higher at the front than many boats (We failed to get through Froghall tunnel a couple of months previously). Knowing that there was a possibility that she might be refused entry put a real downer on the first part of the holiday. As it turns out the height was not a problem but the BW man stated that the boat was borderline on width - and this being a modern boat which we assumed was only six ten wide!
