Hi Allen

I was interested to read your report of your trip up Kyme Eau. It's a shame
that you weren't around at the end of May when we had our boat gathering in
South Kyme. Eleven boats made it up to South Kyme, including NB Jubilee.

The village really made us feel welcome and many came out to see us arrive.
They had organised a scarecrow competition and asked my wife, as Chairman of
SNT, to judge it along with some other helpers. We had a Barbeque, with all
the food sponsored by Lincs Waterways Partnership. There was a special church
service organised for the 'Boat People', the hyms were better chosen this time
as 'For those in peril on the sea' was not among them. We have an alternative
version.

This was followed by lunch for 47 in the pub which had only reopened the
previous Wednesday.

The reason for the problems at Bottom Lock was that last year we knew there
were problems and some divers from RAF diving club came over to look. We knew
there was a real problem when one of them went into the lock with the gates
closed and reappeared on the other side of the gate. "There's a bloody great
hole in this gate" he said. It turned out that one of the paddles had gone
AWOL.

If anyone finds it please let us know!!

The problem was solved by putting a patch over the paddle hole in the gate.

Pleased though that you enjoyed the Slea, the more that use it the less the
weed will grow.

  Steve

Having returned last week from our trip from Milton Keynes to Boston and
back, I've posted the trip report and loads of pictures on our website at:
http://www.keeping-up.co.uk/Canals/2006Boston/2006Bostonhome.htm

Our exploration of the Drains was unfortunately restricted to just one day
because of rising water levels, but we gave it a fair shot in the time
available. The report and pictures can be accessed from the Boston page
above or directly at:

I hope you enjoy reading them
