As most of you know, my task at the National is editing the daily
newsletter. For the last few years Glen Peckett has been my Assistant
Editor, but he's changing jobs to join the "Ents Tech" team. So I'm looking
for a replacement Assistant Editor.

WHAT DOES THE JOB INVOLVE?

Alternating bouts (taking up most of the day) of sitting in a porta-cabin
working at a computer, with walking the site looking for news & gossip.
taking photos & whatever. Past experience shows that the Beer Tent is an
excellent source of news.

WHEN ARE YOU NEEDED?

Obviously we need to start before the Festival. Issue 1 comes out on the
Thursday to be given to boaters & campers as they arrive. That means we
have to write it on the Wednesday, which in turn means the office needs to
be set up on the Tuesday. The last day of the Festival you can be free, as
the last issue goes out that morning. Unless you want to help me with the
Monday-night-in-the-bar limited edition spoof issue.

Mandy Morley will take charge of the photocopier, and has offered to do some
typing for us as well. In addition, in the evenings we have a team who take
charge of the folding and bundling of the printed copies. Once the Festival
gets going we're not usually short of volunteers for this, but on the first
few days your help would be useful.

If necessary, we could offer you our spare berth on Felis Catus III for the
pre-Festival days, but I'm afraid it's promised to somebody else during the
actual Festival.

WHAT SKILLS ETC DO YOU NEED?

The ability to write decent, readable, chatty English is the first
requirement.

Some knowledge of desk-top-publishing would be extremely useful, We use
PageMaker. If you've not used DTP software before, I could show you the
basics and do the tricky bits myself. If you've used another DTP program,
you'll probably pick up PageMaker quite easily.

If you could bring your own Windows lap-top that would be useful. Failing
that we might be able to borrow one. (Glen?) Ditto for a digital camera.
Glen has offered to continue with the technical back-up such as networking
the computers and printers.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

A lot of hard work, but it's mostly enjoyable, except when something goes
wrong, which happens rarely nowadays, partly because we've used the same
photocopier supplier for quite a few years now and he knows what we need and
is around to help. The Editor has been known to put his hand into his
pocket and buy a round of drinks from time to time.

IF THAT DOESN'T TAKE YOUR FANCY
then we also need a team of people each morning from the Thursday to do our
delivery runs. There are a lot of boats & campers coming this year, so
we'll need a big team.

ALL OFFERS WILL BE VERY WELCOME.
