A few days with nothing canally to report, but yesterday (Thursday)
had a nice beef sandwich at the Ship in Oundle, then took a walk to
the River Nene at Oundle Mill, then back past Oundle Marina to the
town. Nice spot.
Today we had lunch at the Zouch Road Bridge (A6006) on the River Soar.
Not in the pubs there - we had bought sandwiches at fruit at the
Tesco in Peterborough, and Adele noticed this spot for a good lunch
stop. After lunch, had a peek at Normaton-on-Soar. I think we
passed through Chris Deuchar territory, but we only knew we were
coming this way when we booked the hotel (mentioned in L&L pubs
message) at 11am, so no time to alert anyone.
Non-canally bits: after leaving Northumberland, visited N. Yorks.,
highlighted by the towns of Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. After
that we were underwhelmed by the Lincolnshire Wolds - must have
missed the good parts, with there were any. Seemed a bit ordinary
to us. Then visited a few National Trust properties, and discovered
a number of attractive Cotswold-like villages between Oakham and Oundle.
