I've got the cocooned BV3300 (75hp) on Brunel and have been very
pleased with it. Fuel consumption works out at about 3 litres/hour
which hurts a little when buying white diesel at marina prices in
France (first fill up cost about GBP 700.....gulp)

You've obviously made your mind up about 12V v 24V then. Not sure
that I agree with you as I tend to support Gibbo's views as
expressed in your recent chat to him on uk.rec.
The BV3300 that I have came complete with the hydraulics for a bow
thruster (9 hp, from memory) and that has been very useful. Can be a
little sluggish at tickover revs but, increase the revs a bit, and
it fairly whizzes you round.
Make sure that you vent the fuel tanks with large vents or have a
second fuel filler that you can remove to provide extra venting as
the French like to pump the fuel in and, without adequate venting,
you might blow the tanks. Also, use big fillers not the UK
narrowboat size. We had the first fill at the Connoisseur base in
Migennes and their nozzle wouldn't fit into the UK spec filler hole.
When he made an adaptor to fit it, it severed the chain holding the
lid on and then, because of the venting problem described above, it
took him over half his lunch hour to gently run the 843 litres into
the tank.
Just some thoughts.
Roger
