Was this Mike & Jo of Joanna? I haven't seen Joanna in the metal but 
IIRC she's a new but minimalist approach to boating - I live in a house 
which doesn't have many of the 'features' included in some modern boats 
so I always wonder why they're necessary!

I think it's a case of working out what you personally cannot do 
without, and whether you are prepared to trade your time for 
convenience. There may also be on-costs - e.g. not much goes wrong with 
paraffin lights and wood-burning stoves, but you may need a vehicle to 
collect the wood and paraffin.
