I have put several hi tech toys (hi-fi, computer, digital/satellite TV
and yes a washing machine) on my (historic) boat, but none that I don't
use as I live on it. However I do agree with you that the proliferation
of gadgets for the sake of it (or maybe just for showing off) is driving
boat prices upwards. I see new boats at 2 or occasionally even 3 times
the value of my own boat and wonder where exactly the money is going.
As a matter of interest where did UKP4000 for a washing machine come
from? I bought mine second hand off another boat but even new they are
only a few hundred quid. Surely even a top notch high powered inverter
or mains alternator can't come in over a couple of grand? I had already
installed the Victron inverter so the total project cost to add my
washing machine was UKP85 including the plumbing bits and bobs :-)
The most expensive toy on a lot of new boats is the least high-tech - a
refurbished vintage engine. One thing I'd never fork out for, despite it
being absolutely correct and traditional on my boat, would be a 9hp
Bolinder, UKP12k+ last time I looked... how can that possibly be justified?
