Only in the form of running off your engine generator! They eat power.
Adding heat to anything is easy, taking it out is a bl**dy nightmare. My
car has air con (just heaven of late...), and I can feel the air con
cutting in and out as I drive, as it's such a big load on the engine (a 2.2
litre diesel), and of course part of that load is the 2 electric radiator
fans which are also full on, when the air con is on (the air con radiator
sits in front of the car radiator). Running the air con in the car will
knock about 20% off the mpg (typically 48 down to 38 while motorway
cruising). The only car I have even driver, that ran the air con without
noticing the load was Chevrolet Corsica (in the US, about 3.5 litres).
I would say only useful if you have a shoreline (and obviously one that can
supply enough power for it!)
