Mea culpa, but:
I was actually only trying to raise the level of the pound, knowing that the
family Keens were en-route and fearing that our water lily filled stretch
might distress people of such a sensitive nature! :-)
The truth is that we were preparing the gas locker for its very first use
for the purpose for which it was designed (the mounting of the gas bottles
that is) and discovered that during the past 3 year we had accumulated a
very large number of tins of Guinness (which neither of us drinks by choice)
several of which had exploded and all of which were out of date by between 2
and four years. This may be because they had been brought to various parties
by other non-Guinness drinkers. Having tried, unsuccessfully, to palm them
off on others, Andy decreed that they would have to be dispatched to a
watery grave to make room in the rest of the boat for more acceptable
refreshments. All parties will be relieved to hear that the only can of HSB
was in the gas locker as a result of an oversight, was only 12 months out of
date, and was only donated to Graham out of respect for his distress at
having seen the untimely demise of so much of the black stuff.:-)
