Hi to all.
Greetings from Sydney where its the middle of winter and quite cold
by our standards. It's interesting to read listers' various comments
on your current hot weather. I have been lurking on this list for
about six months now and thoroughly enjoy reading all your various
adventures on the cut. My reason for posting is that we will be
hiring a narrow boat out of Rose Narrow Boats (Brinkley near Rugby)
for four days (mid-week) in late October and I would appreciate some
advice and opinions. There will be six of us - two couples and two
other ladies - ages ranging from 56 up to 61. My wife and I have
hired before (1998). That was also Rose Narrow Boats and was a
weekend short break. We were with two other couples. We went north to
the Ashby canal and experienced one small lock at Hawkesbury Junction
(AFAIR). We totally enjoyed it and vowed to do it again. Rose were
excellent and we have decided to go with them again. This time we
plan to go south towards Braunston and then decide where to from
there - if anywhere. Our main priority is to relax and enjoy the
experience. We are not really interested in travelling long
distances. We want to eat in pubs and get off and go for a walk when
it takes our fancy. What sort of temperatures can we expect in the
last week of October? I assume it will be be cool to cold. We will be
prepared for that clothing wise. What are your thoughts on us going
to Braunston? If we go further should we turn right towards Napton or
go left the other way. What pubs are recommended along the way? I
have noticed a bit of chat about low water levels in some of the
canals. Is this likely to affect us? I know that's like trying to
predict the weather. We will be on the water from 23 to 27 October
and if there is any chance of meeting and saying hello to any of you
please let me know.
Cheers,
Mick and Kay Russell
